Pique calls for Barcelona improvement ahead of Lyon clash

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has called on his teammates to improve, as they prepare to face Lyon in the Champions League in midweek.

The former Spanish international played his 300th La Liga game for the club during the lacklustre 1-0 win over Real Valladolid, thanks to a penalty from Lionel Messi, and the experienced campaigner knows they need to do better in France.

"We did not play well (against Valladolid), but the important thing is that we won the game.

"But we know that we must improve our level of performance, or it will be a very tough night away at Lyon on Tuesday.

"We need to move the ball quicker and with more fluidity and create more chances to score."

Pique was fouled for penalty which Messi converted – the Argentinian missed a second half spot kick – and the 32 year-old dismissed claims that he was not fouled by Michel.

"I was touched from behind, and it destabilised me.

"There was enough contact for me to fall."
