Brazil youth international Emerson de Souza has arrived at Real Betis after joining the club on an initial loan deal from Atletico Mineiro.
The right wing-back was playing in the South American Under-20 Championships for his nation having agreed a January switch to Los Verdiblancos.
In a convoluted deal, Emerson joins Betis on a six-month loan deal from the Brazilian club before joining Barcelona, who will cede 50% of his rights back to Betis – for whom he will play for a further two seasons.
Emerson joins Diego Lainez and Jese Rodriguez as mid-season arrivals at the Seville-based club and is now available for selection after his nation missed out for the Under-20 World Cup in Poland.
He is expected to provide competition to Antonio Barragan and Francis Guerrero for the right wing-back slot.
