Diego Costa returns to Atletico Madrid training

Diego Costa has returned to Atletico Madrid first-team training for the first time since November after recovering from a foot injury.

The striker had returned to Brazil to undertake his operation following an injury sustained in November, that had been troubling him earlier in the campaign.

The 30-year-old netted just four La Liga goals in the calendar year of 2018 but ended a nine-month scoring drought in the league when he netted against Barcelona – the final game before his layoff.

Costa has previously undergone surgery on his left foot when he suffered an injury to his fifth metatarsal.

Alvaro Morata arrived on an 18-month loan deal from Chelsea last month to add competition for Costa, who is primarily the strike partner for Antoine Griezmann for Los Rojiblancos.

According to Marca, Costa has been targeting a return to action for Atleti’s Champions League clash with Juventus this month.
