Quique Sanchez Flores ‘hungry’ for Chinese football adventure

Shanghai Shenhua boss Quique Sanchez Flores is ‘hungry for adventure’ in Chinese football but ‘would love’ to return to Premier League management.

The 53-year-old has a vast array of managerial experience and was most recently at Espanyol, from where he was dismissed in April.

He has also previously had stints at the helm of Getafe, Valencia, Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Al-Ahli, Al Ain and English Premier League club Watford.

“I'm really hungry for this adventure,” Sanchez Flores told an interview with Marca.

“It had to happen sooner or later. Four years ago, Shanghai Shenhua came to my house in Madrid, back then it was not possible but now it is and I am so excited.

“Of course, I will not rule out a return to La Liga in the future, but it has to be the right club at the right time because not every option is the right one.

“I always feel that when I go to a club there is progress and we are moving towards a goal, and I am confident this will happen again in the future – nobody can argue I do not leave my mark on my teams.

“But at Espanyol…it was the first time in 15 years that I felt frustrating managing a club…you do not always need trophies to feel your side growing, but I did not have this at Espanyol.

“I understood that the project had stalled, and it was not expected, nothing worked out as planned and I was wrong to go there.

“I fell in love with the Premier League, I respect its traditions and the profession there – I would love to go back one day.”
