Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin is ‘unlikely’ to renew his contract at the club this summer, according to a report in Marca.
The Uruguayan defender’s contract at the Wanda Metropolitano expires on June 30 and he is currently free to negotiate with other clubs.
The 32-year-old is still regarded as one of the world’s elite central defenders and has long-standing interest from Juventus and Manchester United.
Atleti CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin reportedly has proposed a marked salary increase but this has not yet been accepted by the club as it is not in-line with their policy for players aged 30 or over.
Los Rojiblancos are also currently at their salary budget for wage offerings, meaning a new deal is unlikely to be sanctioned until players depart the first-team squad.
