Barcelona pay Valencia €2m for Jeison Murillo loan, €25m option

Barcelona will pay an initial €2m to loan Jeison Murillo from Valencia for six months and possess a €25m option to sign him permanently.

The defender is said to have travelled to the Camp Nou to undergo a medical ahead of completing a loan deal until the end of the current campaign.

The Colombian international has suffered a number of injury problems over the past 12 months and has started just 16 La Liga games for Los Che – with just one coming this season – since arriving at the Mestalla in 2017.

The Catalan giants are said to have acknowledged their number one defensive targets – namely Ajax’s Matthjis de Ligt – are unattainable in January, so they are looking elsewhere.

Persistent injuries to Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen this season have forced Barca to act, with Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet the only fit central defenders.

Murillo has formerly played for Cadiz, Las Palmas, Granada and Inter before his switch to Valencia last year.
