River Plate Juan Fernando Quintero eyes European move

River Plate playmaker Juan Fernando Quintero is considering a move to a European club in January, according to a report in Marca.

The 25-year-old is on loan at the Argentine giants from FC Porto until the end of the December while River also have an option to sign him permanently on a €3.2m deal.

The talented playmaker was instrumental for Colombia in their run to the last 16 in the World Cup this summer and netted in his side’s memorable win over Boca Juniors in Sunday’s Copa Libertadores final in Madrid.

The report indicates that River will exercise their option to sign the player but Quintero’s desire to return to European football may see them seek to make a big profit.

The player has also played for Italian side Pescara and Rennes in France, with the report stating he has no desire to return to Porto’s first-team squad should he leave River.

Previously, Quintero has been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Sevilla.
