Santiago Solari: No guaranteed starters at Real Madrid

Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari does not believe in guaranteeing starting positions for his players and emphasised the club’s youth products.

Speaking in relation to Isco not starting any of his seven games in charge to date, the Argentine boss said no players were guaranteed a start under him.

“We have 24 first-team squad players while there are kids from the Castilla too,” Solari told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“We need to show what is being done on training on the pitch, with the same intensity, drive, motivation and belief on the pitch.

“I do not take the approach of having any sure-fire stars and that is the same idea I had as a player too, because no position was never guaranteed.

“Even if players are excellent and are regulars in the team for a decade, they may be fantastic but they know that if their level drops then someone will take their place.

“We have matches in a season when younger players deserve to be played, and that has been the same ever since Florentino Perez was appointed president – there is a big emphasis on youth.

“Almost half of our squad has come through our youth teams and that shows what great work has been done at the club.”
