Carles Alena ‘will be patient’ for Barcelona chances

Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena has insisted he will show patience to earn his first-team opportunities at the club.

The 20-year-old, who suffered a thigh injury in summer to rule him out of action for three months, has made substitute appearances in La Liga and the Copa del Rey this season.

“At any elite club you need to show a lot of patience and grow your career,” Alena told an interview with El Mundo Deportivo.

“So I’m not in any hurry for minutes and I have seen how players like Xavi, Iniesta and Sergi Roberto have had to wait for their opportunities.

“I need to put in a lot of hard working in training and show my dedication to the club, because you need to do this if you want a career here for many seasons.

“A loan move away? It has not been proposed by the club, I have not heard of it and remember this is only my first year at the club.

“Being injured was a very tough time, but Iniesta and Valverde game me messages of support, they made it clear that I was a first-team player.

“I am in an incredibly privileged position to be able to train with these players, with Lionel Messi, I must enjoy it!”
