RFEF: La Liga’s plans to play in Miami are ‘history’

RFEF chief Luis Rubiales insists he has moved on from La Liga’s plans for games to be played in the US. “Miami is history, it’s old news now.”

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is firmly against the idea of the January 26 fixture between Girona and Barcelona being played in the US, as is the Spanish players’ union (AFE) and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, although La Liga is still pushing ahead with the idea.

“For me, Miami is history,” Rubiales told reporters.

“I don’t have much else to say about this matter. No institution that has to support him has supported him. It’s old news now.

“I have nothing special to say to Tebas. He’s the President of La Liga, someone I respect, but I also like to be respected.

“It’s a time to come together and accept the opinions that have been respectfully expressed.

“Javier Tebas also comes to federation meetings like I’m doing here, but ours are with a difference. The RFEF includes La Liga… and the clubs.

“What matters to me is getting on with the clubs. Although we may not have a good relationship personally, there must be one institutionally for the good of our football.”
