Diego Simeone: Atletico Madrid can cope with injuries

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is optimistic that injuries to several key players will not impact his side’s performances.

Diego Godin, Koke and Diego Costa are all unavailable for Tuesday night’s clash against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

“I am optimistic this will not impact us too much,” Simeone told reporters in his pre-match press conference, as cited by Diario AS.

“We have several key performers not available but we have a strong team and those we have are in good form, we have a squad we believe can deal with this – we fully trust everyone.

“Our playing style? There a number of ways in which you can win, which is the objective of every team but the truth is our approach has been very successful.

“Will I change it? I have been here seven years and not a lot has gone wrong, we believe in our approach and our qualities.

“This match will be very tough as, on current form, Borussia Dortmund are one of the strongest teams in Europe and their form both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League is phenomenal.

“Their style of football is very impressive, their counter-attacking play was a big success in our first meeting and we must applaud them for this.

“We did not play badly for long spells but it did not work so we want to show balance and positivity in this game.”
