Andres Iniesta voices support for Julen Lopetegui

Former Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta has expressed his regret at Julen Lopetegui’s sackings from Spain and Real Madrid.

Now playing at Japanese club Vissel Kobe, the experienced midfielder voiced his support for the Coach and insisted he has been unlucky with how events unfolded.

“My relationship with Julen began when he took over at the national team, and we had a strong relationship,” Iniesta told Onda Cero.

“Nobody wanted what happened at the World Cup to unfold, and personally he made me feel important, so I messaged him just the other day.

“In football, what happens to the Coach is dictated by the results and the dynamics of football and we must accept these things can happen.

“Did I watch El Clasico? Barca were superior, and it was not important that Lionel Messi was not available as everyone plays at their highest level for these games.

“How is living in Japan? I was so eager to come here that everything seems positive to me, it is a new experience with a sense of calmness.

“When we go out for a walk we are not surrounded by people and a lot of the people are shy when approaching you, it gives you more freedom.

“Will I return to Barcelona? Nobody knows that can happen in the future but it will only happen if I am qualified to do the role moreso than any other.”
