Francis Coquelin back for Valencia after six months

Marcelino Garcia Toral has hinted Francis Coquelin could start for Valencia for the first time in six months this week.

The French midfielder suffered an Achilles tendon rupture in March but made his first appearance on Sunday, coming from the bench in the scoreless draw with Villarreal.

“It is great news for us because he has been out for six months,” Marcelino told reporters.

“He has done his time and has been integrated back into the squad properly and has been training with the group for the past three weeks.

“If he is included in our matchday squad then it is because he is ready to play but obviously after all this time and this hard injury, we must be sensible about it.

“We have had a lot of discussions with the medical team and that is the basis of whether or not he should be included in our matchday squads.

“He played on Sunday and we hope to ease him back in.”
