La Liga chief Javier Tebas dismisses heat-stroke concerns

La Liga president Javier Tebas has brushed off suggestions that Spanish football fans are in danger because of the heat.

Spanish FA chief Luis Rubiales has criticised the kick-off times after reports of heat-stroke suffered by fans at Levante’s weekend clash against Sevilla, held at midday.

“Nobody is in danger because of the times,” Tebas told Onda Cero, as cited by Marca.

“You only need to look at events like La Vuelta (Spanish cycling race) and marathons when people are putting themselves through extreme situations.

“Rubiales has spoken to me before about kickoff times but not because of the heat, but because he wants to get more money from the TV companies.

“He always wants to ask for more money, his organisation has problems and he has asked everyone apart from the Pope!

“What do we do about kickoff times? We can only react to the fixture schedules within a short time-frame so our job is to ensure all games go ahead.”
