Roma sporting director Monchi ‘not considering’ Spain return

Roma sporting director Monchi insists he has ‘not considered a return to Spain’ ahead of his side taking on Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Monchi left Sevilla last year after 17 years in the role at the club, helping them to five Europa League titles, but he has ruled out an exit from Roma anytime soon.

“At the moment I have not considered returning to Spain, because I am very happy where I am,” Monchi told Cadena Cope.

“I am in a very different project in which I had to find the ideal Monchi for this club, and I have done that and I am enjoying myself.

“I am never thinking about far into the future, I only consider the present and I do not concern myself more than for the day to day work – I still have years of contract with the Roma.

“Have I changed? Well, I'm getting older and nerves are harder to master now! I have not been able to exercise as much control over emotions and I suffer a lot during the match, especially if it has not gone well.

“A slow start to the season for Sevilla? It is more or less what is happening to us. The results are not good but there are plenty of reasons for optimism and confidence.”
