Girona boss Eusebio Sacristan refutes Celta Vigo ‘time wasting’ claims

Girona Coach Eusebio Sacristan has refuted claims from Celta Vigo counterpart Antonio Mohamed that his side ‘time wasted’.

The Catalan side were hanging on to a 3-2 victory in Monday night’s clash, with Celta – who had Gustavo Cabral sent-off late on – pushing for a late equaliser but were not happy with the hosts tactics.

“We have tried to always win within the laws of the game,” Eusebio is cited as saying by Marca.

“We did not try to waste time with Aday’s injury, he needed to come off and we took the precautions we needed to take.

“Celta have a great team and it was no coincidence what they are doing this season, I am sure they will continue to excel playing like this.

“We suffered a lot because at the end of the match but we defended strongly and we have done well to secure an important victory and vital three points.

“We are now in a good situation, in terms of points, the atmosphere in the squad, the consistency, the strength.

“Now we move to a play a very complicated match, at Barcelona, where it is very difficult to score but this has to give us strength and motivation.”
