Diego Simeone: Atletico Madrid fans need patience

Diego Simeone has called on Atletico Madrid fans to get behind him and his team after booing a substitution in the draw with Eibar.

The Argentine Coach introduced young player Borja Garces for Rodri as Atleti chased the victory, in a match which ended 1-1, with Garces netting the late equaliser.

“The fans need to understand what I am trying, like our players do,” Simeone told reporters, as cited by Diario AS.

“It would have been possible for me to keep Rodri on but substitute off Koke or Saul instead but I believe they are better in the phases of attack and transition into the final third.

“Fans come to the games and expect to win, that is now the culture of the club, but we must manage that and get them on our side.

“Rodri was playing well and I took him off so I understand, but I work with the players and know who works best for the individual situations.

“The Eibar goalkeeper was fantastic and we must congratulate him, whilst also showing patience.”
