Lucho: De Gea can handle criticism

Manchester United goalkeeper and Spain international David De Gea ‘can handle criticism’ and bounce back from below-par performances, says Luis Enrique.

The Spain boss has rejected suggestions the goalkeeper is going through a decline in form for the national side despite a series of mistakes for the team throughout 2018, including the World Cup.

“David always displays a lot of calmness and maturity for his age,” Enrique told reporters at a press conference ahead of the UEFA Nations League clash with Croatia.

“He has a lot of experience and is the upmost professional, and he knows that taking praise and receiving criticism is part of this career.

“He can handle the bad words that come his way and take this in his stride, and he has done.

Following on from La Roja’s win at England on Saturday night, the Coach confirmed he was sticking with the United shot-stopper as his number one: “I’m very calm with David, he’s a top player.

“His game and all the seasons he’s played in England make him our number one for his numbers and performance, he’s the world number one.”
