Fulham join hunt for Madrid defender

Newly-promoted Premier League club Fulham are set to rival Real Sociedad for the signature or Real Madrid defender Theo Hernandez.

According to Marca, La Real believed they had struck a loan deal this week for the 20-year-old left-back, who Madrid signed from cross-city rivals Atletico last summer in a deal worth a reported €26m.

However, Fulham have now entered the race to sign the Marseille-born player on loan and are prepared to pay his full salary for the next 12 months, besides paying Real Madrid €2m for his services.

Unsurprisingly, any agreement between Madrid and the Basque club has now been held up as the European champions would want Sociedad to pay at least part of the player’s wages, whilst they also claim they have received up to seven offers for Hernandez.

Even so, Hernandez’s preferred option is Real Sociedad, something both he and his agent are understood to have communicated to the Madrid hierarchy.
