Casillas ‘won’t end career in Spain’

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has ruled out a return to Spain from Porto as he seeks to wind down his career.

The 37-year-old still has one year remaining on his contract with the Portuguese giants, but he insists he wants to remain with the Dragoes until he finally decides to call time on his playing days.

“It would be nice to have had only a few clubs in my career,” insisted Casillas, who joined Porto from Madrid in July 2015 after coming through the club’s youth ranks as a 10-year-old and spending almost 25 years with Los Blancos.

However, he left the Santiago Bernabeu under a cloud with his father openly criticising the manner of his departure, saying he had been forced out of the club by President Florentino Perez.

Nonetheless, Casillas says he has no regrets after a career that saw him pick up a raft of honours.

“I spent a large part of my life at Real Madrid, which is the best club in history.

“But I came to Portugal and joined a strong team like Porto, so that makes me very happy.

“I’d like to finish my career with Porto and go to the end of my contract,” Casillas told Portuguese broadcaster RTP.
