Coke: Levante need consistency

Levante defender Coke Andujar believes the club needs more consistency this season compared to last year.

The Valencia-based outfit struggled in the first part of the 2017-2018 campaign but recovered to mount a strong finish that eventually ended with a 15th-place finish, 17 points clear of the drop zone.

However, former Sevilla and Schalke right-back Coke, whose loan deal from the German club was made permanent in June for an undisclosed fee, feels there needs to be more consistent performances this term if Levante are to mount a challenge in the top half of the table.

“I understand that the hopes and dreams of all of us are that we play like we did in the final 12 games of last season, so I hope it’s like that, but I know it will be very difficult,” the experienced 31-year-old told a Press conference on the club’s pre-season tour of Holland.

“I think we’ve all reviewed the events of last year and what we must improve on is our consistency.

“We were very good over those last 12 games, but we also have to analyse the previous 15 matches, where we need to correct errors both on a team and individual level.”

Levante visit Real Betis on the opening day of the season and Coke is under no illusions about the size of the task facing his team.

“Betis are opponents who will come into the game with a lot of positive energy from the past year.

“The level of support they have there is incredible and the fans are emotionally involved with the team.

“It’s going to be very difficult to get something from there, because they will be trying to get things off on a good foot and do things well to kick off their European campaign,” admitted Coke.
