Newly-promoted Huesca have reached an agreement with Athletic Bilbao to take defender Xabi Etxeita on loan.
The 30-year-old central defender returned to Athletic from Elche in 2013, having earlier finished his development with Bilbao’s youth academy, but has been told he does not figure in new boss Eduardo Berizzo’s plans.
Etxeita will sign a season-long loan deal with the Aragonese outfit, while Marca reports the Basques will pay a good part of his salary.
Huesca face Los Leones in the second league game of the season at San Mames and it is understood that the loan agreement does not contain a clause preventing Exteita from playing against his parent club.
