Barca ‘to lock down De Jong’

Barcelona will reportedly look to tie down Ajax and Netherlands starlet Frenkie de Jong once they have completed a deal for Adrien Rabiot.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca will try to bring in Rabiot first, given Paulinho’s ‘unexpected’ return to Guangzhou Evergrande.

The newspaper explains Ajax are unwilling to negotiate De Jong’s sale, but the Catalans believe this summer is the ‘best’ time to sign him or at least secure him for next year.

The Catalans pulled off a similar deal for Brazilian midfielder Arthur, having announced they had an option to sign him in March, before taking it up four months later.

The 21-year-old would also ‘only want to play’ for Barca as opposed to the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, while MD notes his camp ‘believe’ €50m will be enough to prise him from Amsterdam.
