Lenglet: Chance of a lifetime

Clement Lenglet believes joining Barcelona is ‘the opportunity of a lifetime’ after being officially unveiled on Friday.

Lenglet has signed a five-year contract with Barca after they triggered his €35m release clause, and the former Sevilla defender insists he is not daunted by the competition awaiting him.

“I now have the honour of living with the Barca shirt and playing in a team of stars,” he began.

“I’m very happy and proud. I’m ambitious but respectful of everyone. I’m going to learn a lot from them.

“I want to play as much as possible. I’ll work every day to grow. I know there’s a lot of competition in my position, but I’m here to win trophies.

“I’m here to learn from everyone. I’m here to learn from Umtiti. It’s good for me that Barca have such good players.

“My style? I’m left-footed and I like bringing the ball out. I try to play hard but without making many fouls, although sometimes I make them!

“It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, it’s unique, something incredible. You have to get used to Barcelona.

“It’s a style of play totally different from other clubs, so I’ll try to adapt as quickly as possible.

“Everything will be a little demanding. I don’t know how long it’ll be like that for, but everything motivates me.

“It motivates me to play at a stadium like Camp Nou, playing with Messi, in the Champions League and being able to win it, winning La Liga, the Copa…

“Everything went through quickly and everyone’s happy. I’m at one of the best teams in the world.”

The 23-year-old then urged the Catalans to push through a deal for his former France Under-21 teammate and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

“Rabiot is a very good player,” he added.

“Hopefully he can play for Barca. It would be fantastic to play with him. I know him very well because he’s my friend, so we’ll see.

“Young players are ambitious and want to grow and win trophies.”
