Gameiro set for Valencia medical

Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro is set to undergo a medical at Valencia this week ahead of a €20m move, according to reports.

Cadena Ser say the deal – which includes bonuses – has been struck between the two clubs and the Frenchman’s medical is scheduled for early this week.

As Marca reported last week, the main stumbling block for a move for the former Paris Saint-Germain forward were his salary demands, but this appears to have been ironed out.

He is now set to sign a three-year contract at the Mestalla worth a reported €3m – a significant drop from the €4.8m he was said to be earning at Atleti.

The 31-year-old joined Los Rojiblancos from Sevilla in the summer of 2016 but has struggled to nail down a regular first-team place in Diego Simeone’s side.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has found himself behind Antoine Griezmann and January signing Diego Costa in the pecking order, while last month reports in France linked him to moves to Lyon and Saint-Etienne.

Gameiro has netted 27 goals across his two seasons with Atleti but only started in 11 La Liga matches last campaign.

Fernando Torres has already left the club on a free transfer while Griezmann committed himself to the club following links to Barcelona.
