Luis Enrique confirmed as Spain boss

Spain have appointed former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique on a two-year contract following the exit of Fernando Hierro.

Enrique, who has also formerly coached Roma and Celta Vigo, will be the permanent boss of La Roja for the qualification campaign for the 2020 European Championships.

The Spanish FA confirmed earlier on Monday that former Villarreal boss Jose Francisco Molina has been appointed as the new sporting director, following the exit of Hierro.

The former Real Madrid captain left the role ahead of the World Cup to step in for outgoing Coach Julen Lopetegui but Spain’s exit at the last 16 stage had left both roles vacant.

A number of other candidates had been touted by the Spanish press including Quique Sanchez Flores, Paco Jemez, Michel, Roberto Martinez and Pepe Mel.
