Celta Vigo are confident of retaining striker Maxi Gomez this summer despite interest from Sevilla, say reports in the Spanish press.
The Uruguayan striker enjoyed a productive first season at the Galician side, hitting 17 La Liga goals in 35 starts having signed from Defensor Sporting last summer.
The 21-year-old has a €50m release clause in his contract and the club are not willing to lower this, due to the expected €40m departure of in-demand midfielder Stanislav Lobotka.
Sevilla are in the market for a new ‘number 9’ with new Coach Pablo Machin and Director of Football Joaquin Caparros keen to bring in a prolific target-man.
Estadio Deportivo say Gomez was top of the wishlist for Los Rojiblancos but may now switch their attention to other targets.
