Villarreal have reached a ‘total agreement’ for signing Napoli central defender Raul Albiol in a deal worth around €6m, according to reports.
CalcioNapoli24 reports the Spanish club have triggered the experienced defender’s release clause and talks have concluded swiftly with his representatives.
Last week, Diario AS stated the former Valencia defender fits the profile of what the Yellow Submarine require – an experienced central defender who can adapt to Spain quickly.
Discussions have already taken place for the 32-year-old with the Europa League qualifiers hopeful of concluding a deal and triggering the defender’s €6m release clause.
Albiol, a former Spain international and also previously played for Real Madrid, is said to have received an offer from Chelsea but would prefer a return to Spain.
He joined Napoli in 2013 and has made 210 appearances at the San Paolo, winning a Coppa Italia in his first season.
