Juve close in on Valencia’s Cancelo

Juventus and Valencia are close to agreeing terms for the permanent transfer of Joao Cancelo but no deal has yet been concluded.

Onda Deportiva Valencia report Valencia directors Mateu Alemany and Pablo Longoria left Italy having failed to conclude a deal, but that both sides were still hopeful.

Los Che are said to want €40m for the Portugal defender while the Italian club’s former director Luciano Moggi believes a deal will soon be done.

“For Cancelo, the situation is this: he wants Juve and Juve want him, so the deal will go through,” Moggi told 7 Gold earlier this week.

The 24-year-old, who made 26 appearances on a season-long loan deal at Inter last season, is set to leave the Mestalla this summer.

The Milanese giants subsequently missed the May deadline to activate their €35m right to buy the defender, due to their desire to meet UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Valencia would prefer to keep Cancelo but their own financial situation means they must sell before they can replenish their squad, despite qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
