Velazquez leaves Alcorcon, joins Udinese

Coach Julio Velazquez Santiago has left La Liga 123 club Alcorcon to be appointed at Serie A club Udinese, it has been confirmed.

The former Villarreal and Real Betis Coach has replaced Igor Tudor at the helm in Udine to become the club’s fourth boss in the space of 12 months.

The 36-year-old spent just shy of two seasons at Madrid-based Alcorcon, whom he guided to safety in two successive campaigns in Spain’s second tier.

Velazquez managed a combined 38 matches across Villarreal and Betis in the second tier before being swiftly dismissed at both while he has also managed Real Murcia and Portuguese club Belenenses.

“Udinese Calcio make official the signing, from July 1, of Coach Julio Velazquez Santiago to lead the first team,” read a Udinese club statement.

“Tomorrow there will be a presentation Press conference at the Dacia Arena.

“The club thanks Igor Tudor and Mark Iuliano for the work done in the final phase of the 2017-18 season and wishes them the best for the future.”
