Valencia close in on Gameiro move

Valencia are optimistic on a deal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro and the player is keen on the move, say reports in Spain.

A report in Marca outlines how representatives of the French forward have scheduled meetings with Los Che – who are keen to bolster their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League – regarding a move.

The main stumbling block for a move is the former Paris Saint-Germain forward’s salary, with a reduction from his current terms at Los Rojiblancos seemingly inevitable.

The 31-year-old joined Los Rojiblancos from Sevilla in the summer of 2016 but has struggled to nail down a regular first-team place in Diego Simeone’s side.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has found himself behind Antoine Griezmann and January signing Diego Costa in the pecking order, while earlier this week reports in France linked him to moves to Lyon and Saint-Etienne.

Gameiro has netted 27 goals across his two seasons with Atleti but only started in 11 La Liga matches this campaign.

Fernando Torres has already left the club on a free transfer while Griezmann has been linked with a move to Barcelona.
