Pochettino ‘Madrid’s number one choice’

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, say reports.

The former Espanyol Coach is top of Madrid’s list according to reports across the Spanish press, despite signing an extended contract at Spurs earlier this summer.

Germany boss Joachim Low – who guided his nation to the 2014 World Cup triumph – is also a leading candidate, with Marca reporting Madrid have already directly approached both.

The report continues that there is a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ between Pochettino and Spurs chief Daniel Levy, when a departure could be discussed in such circumstances.

Real Madrid directors Jose Angel Sanchez, Ramon Martinez and Florentino Perez reportedly held a lengthy meeting on Thursday following Zidane’s resignation, when alternatives were discussed.

Diario AS also believe Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and former Madrid midfielder Guti – currently in charge of Madrid’s Juvenil team and who made 542 appearances for the club as a player – could also be in the frame.
