Griezmann ‘can’t wait’ for EL final

Antoine Griezmann admits he cannot wait for Wednesday’s Europa League final against Marseille.

The clash in Lyon is only 70 kilometres away from Griezmann’s home town of Macon, and he says it’s a game he is looking forward to as it would mean ‘a first important title’.

“It really want this match to come as it’s in Lyon, 45 minutes from my home, and there will be many members of my family there to see me so hopefully it will be a happy ending, “Griezmann told UEFA.

“I won the Spanish Super Cup in 2014 and now I have the chance to win the Europa League, so I really want to do everything possible to help my teammates.

“For the club it is a very important trophy and is a way to show we are always there to fight with the best.”

Griezmann, who has been linked with a big-money move to Barcelona this summer, went on to speak of his partnership up front with Diego Costa.

“He helps me a lot and creates a lot of space for me between the defence and midfield,” he continued.

“I know he will ask me to play deep. He is my No 9, so I try to put in some good balls. We are not together much but we get on fine.

“Sometimes we have things to improve upon, but I’m very grateful to the club for having brought him here – and also to ‘Cholo’ {Simeone},” he concluded.
