Koke eyes Europa League success

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke says that although the Europa League is not the Champions League his team will be all out to win it.

Diego Simeone’s men take on Marseille in the final in Lyon this week and Koke maintains he and his teammates will be doing their utmost to lift the trophy.

“We want a title as we’ve fought a lot over the past few seasons, got to finals, but were not able to win them, so we want to do that to give our fans something to celebrate,” Koke told Mundo Deportivo.

“We need to win this one because the supporters were very sad to have lost the other two and since then we haven’t won anything.

“Sevilla beat us in the quarter-finals of the cup and in the Champions League we were unlucky not to reach the next round. But we are in the final of the Europa League and second in the table.

“With everything that has happened this season we can be proud of what we’ve done. It could have been better, of course.”

Koke feels that the game against Marseille could go either way and there is no clear favourite.

“It’s a final and anything can happen, so there will be no favourite and anything can happen. It’s true we have experience of playing in finals, but I think there is a 50 per cent chance of either team winning because any detail can decide the outcome."
