Setien: Euro qualification a dream

Real Betis Quique Setien admits qualifying for European football next season is ‘a dream’ and admits to becoming ‘very emotional’.

The former Las Palmas tactician was reduced to tears after the full-time whistle of Monday’s 2-1 victory over Malaga, with Europa League football secured.

“This has made very emotional,” Setien told Cadena Cope after the match.

“These experiences can soften you because we have had many difficult times and lows this season but this makes up for everything we have experienced.

“I was convinced we could qualify for Europe, I knew our capabilities but this is a dream and we have made so many people happy and allow them all to dream some more.

“Our fans have had years of frustration and to have that level of joy in the stadium, with 50,000 or 60,000 people singing was fantastic.

“We now must work towards securing fifth at the end of the season, to target victories in our remaining fixtures.

“Joaquin? He is so important to us, he has enjoyed a fantastic season and has helped us immeasurably.”
