Meyer exit confirmed by Schalke

Reported Barcelona and Atletico Madrid target Max Meyer will leave Schalke in summer when his contract expires, the club have confirmed.

The 22-year-old has been linked to a host of clubs and the Gelsenkirchen-based club, who are also losing Leon Goretzka to Bayern Munich on a free this summer, have confirmed his expected exit.

“He will definitely leave definitively Schalke in the summer,” Schalke CEO Christian Heidel confirmed to reporters on Thursday.

“We approach the situation in a professional way. There was, nor is there, any bad words by either side.”

Meyer is adaptable but is primarily an attacking midfielder, with Barca among the other clubs linked to his signature.

Diego Simeone is also said to be concerned about the age profile in his squad and Meyer ‘would assist in rejuvenating’ his ranks.
