‘Betis much stronger now’ – Setien

Quique Setien has hailed his Real Betis as ‘much better now than in September’ and believes the players ‘not worrying about results’ was key.

Los Verdiblancos have dropped just two points in their last seven matches and have now kept six consecutive clean sheets – only the second team in Europe’s top five league to do so this season.

“We have improved things not only on the defensive level, but in other aspects,” Setien told reporters after the match, as cited by Sevilla Info.

“Now we are a team much better than we were in November and September. The progression has been evident even in the players themselves.

“In the defensive aspect, since we played with three men back and two on the sides that also help us defend, we are a more mature, aggressive team and we are more attentive to all defensive actions than we were at the beginning of the campaign.

“There are many reasons behind our strong campaign – the club itself, for it’s stability while I must also pay tribute to the leaders in the dressing room, as they deserve it.

“Our recruitment has been very good and other players have developed while above all, the players have remained calm regardless of results – they trusted in the process.”
