Betis on course after Las Palmas win

Junior Firpo’s header in the fourth minute of added time kept Real Betis on course for Europe with a 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Las Palmas.

Los Amarillos lie second-from-bottom in La Liga and now lie 13 points from safety with just five games remaining, with the inevitable feeling of relegation.

Dominican full-back Junior headed home to keep Betis in fifth place and on course for a European spot, as they sealed their sixth successive league victory for the first time since 1959.

Three minutes before the end of the match the visitors were reduced to ten men as Michel Machado was dismissed for a second yellow card.

Betis, who have also kept five clean sheets in a row, are now seven points ahead of city rivals Sevilla in the race for Europe, with Villarreal sandwiched in-between in sixth.
