Malaga down after Levante loss

Malaga became the first club in Spain and across Europe’s top five leagues to be relegated after a late defeat at Levante on Thursday.

Emmanuel Boateng netted for the hosts, who are also battling relegation, deep into injury time to end the Andalusian club’s survival hopes with five matches remaining.

The vital winner takes Levante seven points clear of Deportivo La Coruna and the relegation zone in La Liga as their revival under Paco Lopez continued.

Malaga’s 10-year stay in the top flight has now officially ended, marking the end of a run which also saw them play in the Champions League quarter-finals in 2013.
