Bayern’s Vidal out for season

Bayern Munich have confirmed midfielder Arturo Vidal will miss the rest of the season due to his knee injury being more complex than first feared.

The former Juventus midfielder had missed the second leg of Bayern’s quarter-final with Sevilla, which ended 0-0, as well as subsequent domestic thrashings of Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen.

The Chilean international will now miss both legs of his side's Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, despite initial hopes he would return for the second leg.

He was also part of the Bavarian side who lost to Los Blancos in the last eight after extra-time last season, controversially seeing red.

Bayern are not short of alternatives in central midfield with Thiago Alcantara, Corentin Tolisso, Sebastian Rudy, Javi Martinez and James Rodriguez all looking to feature.
