Zidane admits Benzema ‘complications’

Zinedine Zidane admits Karim Benzema has had a ‘complicated’ season in terms of goals but insists the Real Madrid striker could yet prove decisive.

Benzema has scored just nine goals in 38 appearances for Madrid this term, but the Frenchman played a key role during Madrid’s 2-1 win at Malaga on Sunday, albeit without finding the back of the net.

“It’s important to only make small changes and rest the others,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“We did very well, it’s not easy to face a team that don’t deserve to be bottom. We put in a sincere performance, respecting our opponents.

“Bale? He rested like the other three or four. Isco? I’m happy with how he played and with his goal. He had a great match and I’m happy for him and the team.

“He deserves [the praise]. He was important for Malaga and he was today for Madrid.

“Managing the team? It’s not easy, I wanted to do it as best as possible, rotating the squad and resting players, even though not everyone can rest.

“We’re one match away from the semi-finals, so we’ll see. We’re in a good run of form, we’re healthy, without any problems and that’s important.

“Benzema? He’s not going to throw in the towel. He likes scoring and had chances. He played very well and only lacked the goal.

“It’s been complicated for him in front of goal this season, but it’s not over yet.”
