Cordoba threatened with relegation

La Liga president Javier Tebas has threatened Cordoba with administration and certain relegation from the second tier, say reports in Spain.

ABC de Sevilla report the Spanish league’s chief as ‘issuing a serious threat’ to the Andalusian club following a ‘surprise audit’, which showed the club were paying out salaries not declared in official accounts.

The report acknowledges that Los Verdiblancos were not specifically named by Tebas in his declarations but ‘it is clear that they are the club identified’.

The Spanish news outlet continues that they contacted Cordoba – who were last in Spain’s top flight in the 2014/15 campaign – for comment but they were not willing to issue any statement.

The club have been mired in La Liga 123’s relegation zone all season but under new Coach Jose Ramon Sandoval has won 19 points from eight games as they aim for survival.

However, wrongdoings of this magnitude could result in automatic relegation, according to Tebas.
