Garitano ‘ready’ to leave Leganes

Leganes Coach Asier Garitano has given his clearest hint yet that he will leave the club this summer when his contract expires.

The 48-year-old has guided the Madrid-based club to two promotions since taking charge in 2013, and stabilised their position in the top flight.

Garitano – a reported target for Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad – also guided Lega to the Copa del Rey semi-finals this season, but has stated he will not renew his deal unless the club match his ambitions.

“I will not renew if the club and the team do not have ambitions of growing,” Garitano is cited as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

“I want to improve the squad and the players I have available, I want to keep building and to strive for more success.

“The economic issue for me is not important, it does not matter what they offer me in terms of wages, it is about the club’s ambition.

“You must always try for me, to be courageous in making decisions and if we do not then the club will not succeed, as every season becomes more difficult.

“Txema (Indias, sporting director) has been here for three years and knows what he wants, and I am just the Coach, the club is way above me.

“I will not renew is the club do not have my ambitions, even if they offer me a better contract.”
