Atletico Madrid have been drawn against Portuguese club Sporting CP in the quarter finals of this season’s Europa League in Friday’s draw.
Los Rojiblancos defeated Lokomotiv Moscow 8-1 on aggregate to advance to the quarter finals, having previously eliminated Danish club FC Copenhagen.
Lisbon-based Sporting CP defeated Viktoria Plzen in the last 16 round 3-2 on aggregate, while Jorge Jesus’s side currently lie third in Portugal’s Primeira Liga.
The Madrid-based club surprisingly exited the Champions League at the group stage, and last won the Europa League title in 2012.
