Atletico confirm Oblak injury

Atletico Madrid have confirmed goalkeeper Jan Oblak has undergone scans for a groin injury, with an injury layoff likely.

The Slovenian missed the first leg of the Europa League clash with Lokomotiv Moscow on Thursday and Marca previously reported he will also sit out the weekend clash with Celta Vigo.

Argentine shot-stopper Axel Werner stood in for the stricken Oblak after the sale of Miguel Angel Moya to Real Sociedad last month.

“Our goalkeeper has undergone an MRI to determine the extent of his injury,” read an Atleti statement.

“The medical report offered by the medical services of the club indicates that the Slovenian suffers an injury in the left gluteal muscles and will remain unavailable pending evolution.”

The 25-year-old is also said to be suffering from a hand injury although it is the discomfort in the groin which has ruled him out for the immediate future.
