Busquets blasts ‘unfair’ league schedule

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has criticised La Liga’s scheduling after his side were made to play twice in the space of four days.

The Blaugrana defeated Atletico Madrid 1-0 on Sunday less than 72 hours after their lengthy trip to Las Palmas, while their opponents had a day extra rest ahead of the game.

“When you don’t have enough sleep or sufficient rest between games it often shows in your performances,” Busquets told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“I never want to have to make excuses but when you win the match it is easier to make these points, because the result has not impacted my opinion that this is unfair.

“Everybody want to improve the situation because it is not fair if you do not get sufficient time to prepare for matches.

“We were dominant until our tiredness began to kick in, it was a long trip to Las Palmas and we did not get much rest.

“We do not understand why our match there could not have been played earlier.”

Felix Brych will officiate the match at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.
