Eibar in sixth after late winner

Jose Luis Mendilibar admits it is ‘extraordinary’ that Eibar are sixth in La Liga after Ivan Ramis’ 94th-minute header beat Leganes 1-0.

Ramos climbed highest deep in stoppage time to not only punish Leganes for losing Dimitris Siovas to a red card but moved Eibar above Sevilla in the European places, yet Mendilibar insisted their objective was still survival.

“This season has showed it’s difficult to be up here,” the Coach said after the game.

“We had 10 very bad days, but we’ve reared our heads and we’re up there. Our objective, which is to stay up, hasn’t been achieved yet.

“If we achieve it, there will be time to enjoy and think about other things, even if we’ll still go game by game.

“Ultimately, the League will place us where we deserve to finish. It’s extraordinary that Eibar are sixth because at the start of the season, no-one thought we’d be up there.

“We haven’t changed anything, we’re not fussed by who our opponents are. We’ll insist on what we think we do well at.

“The analysts that watch us us every week and pundits know what we do each game. We change very little, so it should be easy to play against us!”
