Barragan joins Betis permanently

Real Betis defender Antonio Barragan has joined the club on a permanent basis from Middlesbrough after his contract clause was triggered.

The 30-year-old joined Los Verdiblancos on a season-long loan from the English club in summer, but a clause existed that a further two-year contract would be activated should he play a minimum of games.

El Desmarque state the clause in question is the full-back starting in half of the club’s league games (of which he is available), which occurred with his appearance against Villarreal on Saturday.

Barragan joined Boro in 2016 for a €2.5m fee from Valencia and started 26 Premier League matches at the Riverside Stadium but was unable to prevent the club’s relegation last season.

The right-back has started 19 La Liga matches for Quique Setien’s side this campaign.
