Real Betis midfielder Fabian Ruiz has thanked others club for their ‘interest’ in signing him but he only ever wanted to stay with the club.

The 21-year-old has signed a new long-term contract with Los Verdiblancos until June 2023, which reportedly will see his release clause double from €15m to €30m.

West Ham United manager David Moyes had recently scouted the midfielder, while Barcelona and Real Madrid were also said to be interested.

“I am Fabian and Dani Ceballos is Dani Ceballos, we are different,” Fabian told his news conference on Thursday.

“He was my midfield partner and he is my friend, but he took a decision for his own career and I have always been clear my idea was different.

“I appreciate the interest from other clubs and the confidence they have shown in me, but Betis were always my priority and I am convinced that I have made the right decision.

“It is true that the Coach (Quique Setien) has been very important in my decision to renew, he has given me lots of advice and has placed great trust in me.

“Elche (a loan spell) helped me grow and I want to thank them and everyone else, especially my family, in showing me such support.”
