Camarasa: I turned down Brighton

Midfielder Victor Camarasa has revealed he rejected a move to Brighton to help bring Betis ‘back to where we belong’.

The English Premier League club were reported to have lodged a €10m bid for the former Levante and Alaves midfielder, who moved to the Seville-based club for €7m in summer.

“When I first joined Betis, I knew exactly how big a club this is,” Camarasa told EFE, as cited by ABC de Sevilla.

“I rejected many big teams to come here and my idea is to triumph at the club and help bring us back to where we belong in Spanish football.

“My only thought is to continue here to work on our objectives and help finish the project which we have started.”

Camarasa starred for Alaves on a season-long loan deal last season, helping them to a top-half finish and a first ever Copa del Rey final, while he has also been linked to Tottenham, West Ham and Schalke.
